RESEARCH TASK - CAPTAIN MARVEL

Captain Marvel's origin, powers, and comic history, explained by creators - Polygon

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is the first Marvel movie that is female-led. In other words it is the first movie made by Marvel where a woman is a star of a movie. Because Captain Marvel is a film produced by Marvel, they don't need to advertise the film as much as other independent, smaller films would have to advertise their film, as they can rely on word-of-mouth advertising as a big part of their way of getting it out to the general public. This means that people are constantly talking about the movie and telling each other, about it. The movie may also gain a more than usual support from women, due to the landmark in gender equality this film marks.

Amidst a mission, Vers, a Kree warrior, gets separated from her team and is stranded on Earth. However, her life takes an unusual turn after she teams up with Fury, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

The way this film has advertised is through small blips in the middle of YouTube videos, showing the most action packed parts of the film, attracting the viewer. Another way they attracted audiences to watch this movie is through the nostalgia presented in this movie. This nostalgia is presented through the amount of cameos in the film. These are cameos of actors who have previously acted in Marvel movies. This would attract audiences from an earlier period, who watched the past movies, as it showcases some of the greatest actors from Marvels past.

Captain Marvel also has a series of merchandise that people can purchase. This merchandise is there for advertising, for people to see the shirt they are wearing to put the film in their mind constantly. For other films, the merchandise is another way of bringing in income, which it still is for Captain Marvel, however, only amounts for a small amount of the money this film brings in, with its main purpose being advertising.

  1. Research into how a Hollywood major markets and distributes a film so that you have context on distributing your own film.
