Welcome to my blog!

My production team included Matthew Heyns, Finley Hanley, Benjamin Richardson and I, Samuel de Bruin.

Our brief was to make a film opening. The title of our film was Suspect. Suspect is a film that tells the tale of the murder of a young woman, documenting the everyday lives of the three suspects of the murder, unravelling who committed the crime and how all the men were intertwined. It is a drama/murder-mystery.

One of my responsibilities for the film was directing. I directed the scene where the rich, arrogant and intelligent business man comes out of his sizeable house and makes phone calls which shows that he is used to ordering people about and controlling them. To convey this to the viewer effectively, we had to have the right camera angles to show the personality of Herbert Crafts and allow the viewer to relate the character to other characters like him.

Another one of my responsibilities for the film was finding the music for the film that we used. I was searching endlessly for music that would fit the genre and tone of our film. After days of searching for the right tune I had found the music that fit our genre. You can hear the music in the film opening in the link below.

I partly had a responsibility for editing our film opening. The editing itself is done by Matthew Heyns who is in my group, but me and my team were constantly collaborating and chipping in where possible to make sure Matt didn't miss anything when editing.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING - SUCCESSFUL

We filmed the majority of our filming on the 1st of July 2021. We had the whole summer to work on it but we wanted to get the filming done with so we could spend a long time editing the clips and making sure our film opening was up to scratch.

The filming we did included filming the introduction of Herbert Crafts and Kieran Tucker. We started with filming me, playing Herbert Crafts, in Matthew Heyns' house. The purpose of these shots were to convey to the viewer that I was a rich and successful businessman with a large house and admirable cars. This painted the picture that I was arrogant and had a lack of perspective for those worse off than I. Then, when filming Finn, playing Kieran Tucker, we shot his scenes on the driveway in front of my house, making it out as if he is sleeping on it. This makes it seem as if Kieran Tucker is part of the working class and has just woken up after a big night out on a random person's driveway. This creates a visible disparity between Kieran Tucker and Herbert Crafts and allowing the viewer to relate each character to other characters like them who they may have seen in film or even apply our characters to people they know in real life. This enhances the overall viewing experience.

We will be looking both ways before we cross the road, at every road we aim to cross. I believe this will minimise the risk to a large extent as it will allow us to see if any cars are driving towards us.

We will make sure to take a large step when coming onto the train, whilst also looking at how big the gap is, making sure we are completely out of risk of getting stuck.

We will walk in groups when on the High Street and will not approach other members of the public or respond to any comments intended to provoke one of us

We will follow the guidelines given to us extensively and make sure we do everything we are told, reducing the risk of us being in danger in a scenario of this sort.

RESEARCH TASK - CAPTAIN MARVEL

Captain Marvel's origin, powers, and comic history, explained by creators - Polygon

Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is the first Marvel movie that is female-led. In other words it is the first movie made by Marvel where a woman is a star of a movie. Because Captain Marvel is a film produced by Marvel, they don't need to advertise the film as much as other independent, smaller films would have to advertise their film, as they can rely on word-of-mouth advertising as a big part of their way of getting it out to the general public. This means that people are constantly talking about the movie and telling each other, about it. The movie may also gain a more than usual support from women, due to the landmark in gender equality this film marks.

Amidst a mission, Vers, a Kree warrior, gets separated from her team and is stranded on Earth. However, her life takes an unusual turn after she teams up with Fury, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

The way this film has advertised is through small blips in the middle of YouTube videos, showing the most action packed parts of the film, attracting the viewer. Another way they attracted audiences to watch this movie is through the nostalgia presented in this movie. This nostalgia is presented through the amount of cameos in the film. These are cameos of actors who have previously acted in Marvel movies. This would attract audiences from an earlier period, who watched the past movies, as it showcases some of the greatest actors from Marvels past.

Captain Marvel also has a series of merchandise that people can purchase. This merchandise is there for advertising, for people to see the shirt they are wearing to put the film in their mind constantly. For other films, the merchandise is another way of bringing in income, which it still is for Captain Marvel, however, only amounts for a small amount of the money this film brings in, with its main purpose being advertising.

AUDIENCE QUESTIONNAIRE: RESULTS

From these results, I can conclude that generally, females over the age of 35 watch the trailer, look at the film website, read the newspaper and look at radio shows to get information on a film. Additionally, I found that watching a trailer before the movie is extremely common amongst everyone, and people who watch the trailer makes them want to see the movie more. I believe this is because an action-packed trailer indulges the viewer and makes them excited to watch the film. Movie posters also proved to be a successful way of attracting viewers as it illustrates the tones and themes of the movie.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING - SUCCESSFUL

On the 19th March 2021 we filmed the park scene for our film opening Suspect. We filmed the park scene including Herbert Crafts running and talking on the phone and Alan Cork talking to himself while fishing. We included shots such as drone tracking shots, pans and wide angle shots. This filming was successful and we will be using this part of the filming for our final film opening. I believe the drone shot will be a huge factor in making our film opening look professional and as if it was produced by a top production company such as Warner Brothers.

Drone footage
We filmed the drone footage with the aim of giving the viewer a more rounded view of the scene, hopefully immersing them into our production more. I believe the drone footage was successful in doing so as the viewer could see the bigger picture in the location of where our production was filmed. Additionally, the drone footage established our characters more, as the viewer got to see more angles of the characters and what they looked like on a wider scale. We studied the drone regulations before filming using the drone
