Welcome to my blog!

My production team included Matthew Heyns, Finley Hanley, Benjamin Richardson and I, Samuel de Bruin.

Our brief was to make a film opening. The title of our film was Suspect. Suspect is a film that tells the tale of the murder of a young woman, documenting the everyday lives of the three suspects of the murder, unravelling who committed the crime and how all the men were intertwined. It is a drama/murder-mystery.

One of my responsibilities for the film was directing. I directed the scene where the rich, arrogant and intelligent business man comes out of his sizeable house and makes phone calls which shows that he is used to ordering people about and controlling them. To convey this to the viewer effectively, we had to have the right camera angles to show the personality of Herbert Crafts and allow the viewer to relate the character to other characters like him.

Another one of my responsibilities for the film was finding the music for the film that we used. I was searching endlessly for music that would fit the genre and tone of our film. After days of searching for the right tune I had found the music that fit our genre. You can hear the music in the film opening in the link below.

I partly had a responsibility for editing our film opening. The editing itself is done by Matthew Heyns who is in my group, but me and my team were constantly collaborating and chipping in where possible to make sure Matt didn't miss anything when editing.

CONSTRUCTION: FILMING - SUCCESSFUL

We filmed the majority of our filming on the 1st of July 2021. We had the whole summer to work on it but we wanted to get the filming done with so we could spend a long time editing the clips and making sure our film opening was up to scratch.

The filming we did included filming the introduction of Herbert Crafts and Kieran Tucker. We started with filming me, playing Herbert Crafts, in Matthew Heyns' house. The purpose of these shots were to convey to the viewer that I was a rich and successful businessman with a large house and admirable cars. This painted the picture that I was arrogant and had a lack of perspective for those worse off than I. Then, when filming Finn, playing Kieran Tucker, we shot his scenes on the driveway in front of my house, making it out as if he is sleeping on it. This makes it seem as if Kieran Tucker is part of the working class and has just woken up after a big night out on a random person's driveway. This creates a visible disparity between Kieran Tucker and Herbert Crafts and allowing the viewer to relate each character to other characters like them who they may have seen in film or even apply our characters to people they know in real life. This enhances the overall viewing experience.
